Chiropractic and Stress—Clinic Newsletter The modern world is becoming increasingly complex, and the demands on our time and attention are many. Our jobs are also more complex, and the business world has become more competitive. Physical stresses such as sound, air and water pollution have worsened over the last century. We are also, because of electronic media and the Internet, aware of troubles and tragedies around the world that previous generations would never have known about, creating anxiety. Taken together, these assaults on our senses create a physical and emotional reaction. Chiropractors focus on and place a great deal of significance on the healthy structure of the spine and the function of the nervous system. The spinal bones serve not only to protect the delicate spinal cord but also provide the body with stability, movement and good posture. Chiropractors are trained in nutritional and other therapies for stress. Chiropractors may also recommend relaxation techniques, and discuss posture and environmental changes to help recovery from chronic stress. As always, living a healthier lifestyle in general will certainly go a long way to assisting your overall health and prevent problems in the future. A Chiropractor cannot make a job less stressful, or create a quieter, calmer world. What chiropractic treatment can do is help you develop healthy responses to stress, reducing potential physical damage. Stretch of the Month The Cross-Over Stretch Start in a standing position, then:

  1. Cross your right leg over your left, with your feet close together.
  2. Slowly roll your upper body down toward the floor until you feel a gentle stretch (not pain!) along the back of left leg.
  3. Hold for 30 seconds.
  4. Switch legs, repeating twice on each side.
Towards Wellness Positive Attitude The mind is responsible for controlling many factors that affect our health. This includes things like managing stress, exercising to lower blood pressure, not smoking, limiting alcohol use, eating a good diet, and the way we naturally respond to various stressors in our lives. All of these things are controlled by the mind, but have a direct effect on the health of the body. A person who does not have a positive attitude towards health will often let the mind take over and do things that are not good for the body. Having a positive attitude towards health and wellness will help lead you to your goals of optimal health and wellness.  ]]>
